Feed Your Soul

Let me ask you something, when is the last time you did something just for you? Did something that feeds your soul and makes your heart feel full? I often forget how much gravity the little things hold, but this week I’ve decided to start every day with intention, to wake up and tell myself “today is going to be a GREAT day” and to make the time to do that.

Today I woke up extra early to give myself some extra me time before I headed to school. For me, that means waking up early enough to make my favourite chai tea latte before breakfast. I steep one turmeric-infused chai tea bag, foam some almond milk, add in a heaping teaspoon of golden honey and sip on the oh-so-warming drink while I get ready.


I sit by my window while I do my makeup and crack it open as wide as I can. In the fall this feels otherworldly, as the crisp air blows in and hits my face and shoulders. There’s something about the cool air hitting you while drinking a hot cup of tea that feels cosmic.

Then I turn some relaxing music on, which usually ends up being Bon Iver — Holocene or “Wait” by M83 on replay, while I finish my makeup.


I find it funny how the smallest things, like opening the window a little wider, playing my favourite music and making tea can turn a mundane morning into something magnificent. A friend of mine once told me “its the little things that make the big picture”, and I couldn’t agree more. I urge you to wake up a little earlier and start your day by making time for YOU. I promise that all your days will be brighter; after all, its the little things that count.

Relax and Unwind

Life is marvelously beautiful, fascinating and hectic all at the same time. Finding a way to de-stress and unwind in the midst of the chaos that we call life, can be challenging. Recently I’ve been finding new ways to relax and enjoy my time to myself. Your personal health and wellness is above all the most important thing for you to take care of, and sometimes it’s the little things that can make all the difference.

I absolutely love spending time with my family and friends, but I also appreciate the value in enjoying your own company. When I have down time between school, work, my family and friends, I like to spend some time alone and let my mind unwind. One day after class this semester, I went to a local café to enjoy a tea to myself and listen to some music while I got my writing done. I felt so zen in that moment, and am always looking forward to those quiet moments in my crazy life.


I’ve also began to journal more often and write my schedule in a physical calendar. Until recently, I was in putting my schedule on my phone, as it was super handy and quick to access. I still use my phone calendar so that I have access on the go, but I can definitely say that nothing beats the satisfaction of seeing everything laid out in front of you and crossing things off your list.

I have a journal which I write down my daily goals and achievements in, and this calendar pictured here, which I in put my schedule and write my daily to–do lists in.


Learning to de-stress and finding what works for you can take time, but if I were to give my two cents, I would strongly encourage anyone trying to find some way to unwind in the midst of a crazy schedule, to take time and enjoy their own company. Check out a new café, order a cup of tea and journal away! You’d be surprised how much the little things matter.
